Meet Faye - Feedback Queen

photography May 01, 2022

Hi, I'm Faye

Laura has asked me to write a few lines about myself so you know my background, expertise and where your feedback comes from...

I’m mama to fur baby pooch Noodle (aged 13) and human baby Jesse (aged 7). Born and raised in Yorkshire, I spent a short stint of my life working in London (buying in tourist tut to sell at the London Eye shop) before moving back to sunny Bradford 15 years ago to pursue a career in photography. My husband is the one that gifted me a film SLR camera over 20 years ago and there began my passion. I went to night school to learn how to take better photos and develop my own film and prints, so by the time we arrived in Yorkshire, I was becoming a paid photographer (mainly weddings) and learning how to use the digital SLR.

I now shoot many different genres of photography from family to conferencing, corporate head shots to marketing imagery, and marketing events to still life. I've never wanted to specialise too much as I love variety and I think that's something that's not talked about enough. As photographers, we feel we have to niche our work in order to succeed, but I've been fortunate enough to work across a wide range of genres. Nothing is off limits with photography which is one of the most exciting aspects for me.

In my personal life, the great outdoors is always calling. I get fidgety if I spend too long indoors, so you'll find me outside wherever possible, either hiking the hills, squatting on the edge of the canal snapping, or attempting to surf (I'm determined to be up and turning before I’m 50).

I've been a professional photographer for 15 years, and still find it fascinating. There are endless techniques and styles to learn. I don’t think you can ever get bored - it's creative in so many ways, it gets you thinking about your surroundings, noticing colours and compositions everywhere, and it gives viewers wanderlust to discover the world and the people around them. If nothing else, it will always gives you an opening for a good natter with a stranger!

I took part in Laura's Next Level course in September 2021, which give me back the joy of taking photos just for myself and not just a client brief. It led to new techniques, discoveries and has fired me up to look at more people’s work and trying find something a bit different in my own. I now try and shoot a double exposure at every job I do, and be more experimental instead of just safe for the client.

I'm over the moon to be providing image feedback for future members (aka clubbers), bringing all my experience and enthusiasm to it. I can't wait to see take on the beautiful, transformative and addictive world of photography.

Love Faye x
